E-Mediat 5th Workshop

We’ve finished workshop5 in 3 centers. It was one of the most interactive sessions as we celebrated the last workshop in the curriculum.
Sessions were focusing on how to use mobile tools in order to support your social strategy.
Participants were very interactive as they share their experience in using mobile tools in their NGOs.  Most of them use mobile messages to raise awareness, fundraising & to connect with their audience.
Tripoli participants use mobile messages to invite or announce their audience as most of them don't have access to internet.
Participants benefited a lot from this workshop, they learned that they should know their audience before sending the message & to know how to create  a  less characters with a content containing direct message depending on the cause they are working on.
Exxon Telecom was sponsoring this workshop & they offered 50 free SMSs for every participant NGO.

Workshop4 “Digital Photography & Video”

We finished the workshop 4 in 3 centers. It was one of the best interactive sessions. We added 2 modules to it: Photography & Movie making.
Photography session sponsored by Canon (A professional photographer gave the session & a canon camera was given for best photo in each center. History of photography, How to select a good camera, How to take a good photo, Common mistakes, Different shooting cases…..
Movie making By A volunteer director: Ihssan Azmeh gave the session & covered the following topics: Movies types, types of shots, before shooting, writing a script, storyboard, movie rules, equipment…..
The participants benefited a lot & applied what they have learned on the spot. They took photos & joined the trainer in doing the assessment of each photo to learn from others’ mistakes. They took videos shots with the FLIP,: interviews, activities, film with a storyboard conversations….& they commented on each others’ movies with the trainer who was showing them the good & the bad shots.
At the end they edited their movies with Flip & movie maker & started uploading them on their YouTube channels , their Facebook pages & E-Mediat page which made the participants from other centers excited for their workshops . We have received many requests from NGOs & individuals to attend the coming sessions in other centers. This interaction over the Facebook pages made the LBCI TV channel call us to host us in the nonprofit section of their famous program: Helwi Beirut on the 21st of October.
We also hosted a director & reporter from the news department of AL Jadeed TV to share his experience & give tips to participants on how to take the best shots from any activity or demonstration that best delivers the message in a short time & how to attract the audience to watch ur report & more…..

Encourage Exchange @ AUB October 26 & 27

I attended a training session at the American University of Beirut on security exchanging through information technology; the workshop was sponsored by The Development Research Center –Virginia.

The training was presented by Mr. Alan Patterson, Global Security Instructor; He covered a lot of topics: Security Risks Analysis, Cyber Security topics, Censorship & Circumvention. I really learned many useful things in this training, I learned about the importance of security in protecting our information by using strong passwords not less than 12 characters & preferable to be alphanumeric and about updating anti-viruses on a daily basis and also that we should not use pirated version of software to avoid being insecure.

Do you know that our emails are like a postcard & everyone can read it? To avoid this, check URL addresses of emails you received.

Today we are less secure than before due to our using of social media networks and because of this I will share with you some resources which I have got from this training as we always do in E-mediat: sharing information, but keep in mind nothing is secure 100%.

To be more secured on Internet:

Participants’ Testimonies - Women in IT

Randa Yassir (SMART CENTER)

I participated in the E-mediat workshop & I benefited a lot from the things that I learned as this helped me to better present the efforts and achievements of our NGO.I liked the online safety training & how to keep our families safe online. This workshop helped me to know how to be active online, the same as the international NGOs. The workshop was very interactive as we were practicing& applying directly on the internet; this is what makes Emediat different from other social media workshops I attended, as now I am well qualified to use facebook & twitter.Thank you E-mediat; looking forward for more workshops that would benefit more NGOs.

Participants’ testimonies - Women in IT

Michel Daia (LECORVAW)All the workshops I attended were useful, especially how to use social media in promoting & advertising our programs & activities being a must for us as we don't have facebook & twitter accounts. Today's sessions have been very interesting especially the online safety as we have learned how to keep us safe online. Networking also is an important session as each NGO should have a network for more efficient work within society

Interview with Reem Dernaika (AZM & SAADA Foundation)

I was lucky to be selected in my association to participate in the series of the beneficial social media workshops from E-MEDIAT Program. As an NGO, we are interested in the social media & development of the internet & technology. What E-MEDIAT informed us is the strategy of using the social media which is a new skill that we couldn’t found elsewhere!!!.We learned how we can increase the nbr of our followers, how to communicate with them. Personally, I benefited a lot, I started communicating with people & experts working in the social media field. After applying the E-MEDIAT tools, our nbr of facebook fans increased from 10000 to 17000 persons which means 7000 persons in this short time & we’re hoping to get more fans & more followers on twitter. We started using social media tools to call for our event & recently, we organized a successful international festival for the 1st time in Tripoli. E-MEDIAT team helped us in using social media to let people participate .They watched the event on youtube & followed our tweets minutes by minutes on twitter & got latest updates from our facebook page;It was an interesting experience .We’r e thrilled to learn from the coming workshops & hoping to participate in the bootcamp & meet professionals & experts in this field & learn from them. In one word: our experience with E-MEDIAT is amazing!!!

Some of Participants’ Views on Workshop2 @ Moltaka Al Nisai

Hoda Al Kara - Dar Al AmalToday's training was really impressive & demonstrated how the E-Mediat program is covering all the issues related. Online safety & privacy training is very important for the NGos to know how to deal when using social media. As Ngos, we were encouraged today to use social media & to keep our image safe.

Nadine Abdel khalek – Loubnani AssociationI attended the Microsoft online safety & privacy training which was really important & fruitful. Now I realized the difference between virus & spam & how to deal with dominant viruses. In addition to that, we learned how to keep our social media tools mainly the NGO facebook page safe & to keep our image & corporate branding &we went through the ethical things as well; if we know how to use the technology & know how to use a content, it can give positive impact to our work.
we got introduced to the new web 3.0, we discover that we have to apply a lot of applications to get more online marketing through the social media tools in addition to QR code which links you to the online & offline world.

Riad Jabber - YMCA
It was a very useful & successful training. I enjoyed it a lot & benefited from the information of today's session. Thank you Akram & Nada

Hanaa Chayya – IPW AssociationOne of the best training that I've ever attended. It answered all the questions that i had about online safety & privacy.

Nahi Jawad - ICSM (Islah Charitable & Social Movement)I know a lot of the internet but today i learned a lot of new things related to privacy & safety for our personal use & for our NGOs. I'd like to thank Microsoft & E-MEDIAT for giving us the opportunity to be aware & to learn how to deal with security problems that we might safe online & how to keep the positive image of our NGOs.
